What am I? In truth, I donGÇÖt even try to figure it out anymore. IGÇÖve taken so many sides, turned so many corners, I could be back where I began; or I could be somewhere entirely new.
Much has happened since my youthful days ferried around Black Rise while my father designed the various outposts used to fend off Caldari encroachments on his Intaki brethren. I never cared for that war, despite my motherGÇÖs constant reference to the brilliance of being a field nurse and the glory of all those brave soldiers she helped. IGÇÖm convinced father felt the same but he deflected his energies into creating something perfectly practical yet GÇ¥as beautiful as anything the Amarr could put togetherGÇ¥. Never did find out why he held them in such low regard.
Maybe it was just his fondness for the Minmatar. I still remember the proud look on his face when I told him I was being posted to Matar as a diplomatic aide. HeGÇÖd be less pleased if he was still around to see what became of all that. Politics is a messy messy game. I guess itGÇÖs my motherGÇÖs Mannar genes that eventually made me realise that sometimes you need to talk and sometimes you need to shoot.
I did enjoy my first years of service though. Midular was full of good ideas. Still, it didnGÇÖt take long for me to see beneath the veneer and realise that underneath it all everyoneGÇÖs secretly scheming. Nobody is pure of heart. TheyGÇÖre all just trying to look out for themselves and anyone else that benefits in the process is just happy collateral.
I descended into a dark period then. Disheartened by all the nonsense, I allowed myself to be drawn into a ridiculous game of double agentGǪ or triple agentGǪ I canGÇÖt even keep track. It was stupid. And dangerous. Sent between Minmatar and Amarr dignitaries, each offering gifts and GÇ£hospitalityGÇ¥ for information on the other, I played them all and they ate it up like Quafe sweets. I was a fool though; I should have known it wouldnGÇÖt last.
ItGÇÖs just as well really, that the FIO caught up to me before the tribes or empire figured out what was going on. I heard rumours that Jamyl has spies repeatedly cloned and killed in the most painful and horrific of manners. My superiors just stripped me of my titles and caste me out. After that humiliation, I had nowhere to go GÇô IGÇÖd rather not bear the shame on mother and siblings with their new lives in distant Everyshore.
So, here I am; a mercenary. IGÇÖm clean now and at least still have my stuff GÇô and somewhat enjoy the looks of confusion when people see me carrying both a ceremonial Krusual SMG and a Royal Kanid pistol. Even better though, it turns out being able to blend in and gather information serves a role on the battlefield too; itGÇÖs a scoutGÇÖs life for me now. |
